What is Triv?

Triv is an AI-powered travel planning companion that helps you create personalized itineraries through an intuitive swipe-based interface. Simply swipe through attractions, restaurants, and experiences, select your preferences, and let our AI generate a day-by-day itinerary tailored to your travel style.

How does Triv work?

  1. Discover: Swipe right on places you like, left on places you'll pass, or up for super-likes
  2. Customize: Select your destination, travel dates, vibes/interests, budget, pace, and group type
  3. Generate: Our AI (powered by Google Gemini) creates a personalized day-by-day itinerary based on your preferences
  4. Refine: Edit, rearrange, or adjust your itinerary with drag-and-drop functionality
  5. Explore: View your trip on a map and see optimized routes between activities

What platforms is Triv available on?

Triv is currently available exclusively as a native iOS application. You can download it from the Apple App Store. Web and Android versions are not currently available.

Is Triv free to use?

Triv offers a freemium model. New users receive 1 free credit upon signing up, which can be used to generate one complete trip itinerary. Additional itineraries require purchasing credits through subscriptions or one-time purchases.

How does the swipe system work?

  • Swipe Right (Like): Add this place to your potential itinerary
  • Swipe Left (Pass): Not interested in this place
  • Swipe Up (Super-Like): Must-see attraction you definitely want included

Your swipes help our AI understand your preferences and create a personalized itinerary that matches your travel style.

What are "Choice Slots"?

When you like many similar places (e.g., multiple museums or restaurants), our AI creates "choice slots" in your itinerary with 2-3 similar options. This gives you flexibility to decide on the day of your trip which specific venue you'd like to visit.

Can I edit my generated itinerary?

Yes! Once your itinerary is generated, you can:

  • Rearrange activities by dragging and dropping
  • Remove activities you don't want
  • View activity details including timing and location
  • See routes between activities on the map
  • Adjust your daily schedule

Can I plan trips with flexible dates?

Yes, Triv supports flexible date planning if you're not sure of your exact travel dates. You can specify approximate timeframes during trip creation.


Account & Authentication

How do I create an account?

You can create an account using:

  • Google Sign-In: Sign in with your Google account
  • Apple Sign-In: Sign in with your Apple ID

We use Firebase Authentication to securely manage your account. Your email address is required for account creation and communication.

Can I use Triv without an account?

No, an account is required to save your preferences, generate itineraries, and access your trip history.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account from the Profile section within the app. Account deletion is permanent and will:

  • Delete all your personal data from our servers
  • Remove all saved trips and preferences
  • Cancel any active subscriptions
  • Remove your swipe history and credit balance

Please note that account deletion cannot be undone.

Can I change my email address?

Email changes must be managed through your authentication provider (Google or Apple). If you need to update your account email, please update it through your Google or Apple account settings, then sign out and sign back in to Triv.


Credits & Pricing

What are credits and how do they work?

Credits are the currency used to generate AI-powered itineraries. Each trip generation costs 1 credit. You can obtain credits through:

  • Signup bonus: 1 free credit when you create an account
  • Subscriptions: Weekly recurring plans that provide credits
  • One-time purchases: Buy credits as needed without commitment

Do credits expire?

Credits purchased through one-time purchases do not expire and remain in your account indefinitely. Subscription credits are provided weekly as long as your subscription remains active.

What happens if I cancel my subscription?

If you cancel your subscription:

  • You'll retain access to subscription benefits until the end of your current billing period
  • Any unused credits from that subscription period will remain in your account
  • You can continue using saved credits after cancellation
  • You won't be charged for future billing periods
  • You can resubscribe at any time

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled through Apple's App Store policies. To request a refund:

  1. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID
  3. Find your Triv purchase
  4. Select "Request a Refund"

If a refund is approved by Apple, corresponding credits will be deducted from your account.

How do I restore my purchases?

If you reinstall the app or sign in on a different device, tap "Restore Purchases" in the pricing/subscription section. This will:

  • Restore your active subscriptions
  • Sync your credit balance
  • Restore purchase history

Privacy & Data

What personal information does Triv collect?

We collect:

  • Account information: Email address, display name (optional), authentication provider
  • Trip data: Destinations, dates, preferences, generated itineraries
  • Behavioral data: Places you liked/passed, swipe history, travel preferences
  • Location data: GPS coordinates of places in your itineraries (not live location tracking)
  • Financial data: Credit balance, subscription tier, transaction history (payments processed by Apple)

Does Triv track my location?

No. Triv does not track your real-time location or use GPS tracking. The only location data we store is:

  • Coordinates of places you swipe on (from Google Places database)
  • Coordinates of activities in your generated itineraries
  • Destination cities you plan to visit

Is my data shared with third parties?

We use third-party services to provide functionality:

  • Google Places API: For place information and photos
  • Google Gemini AI (via OpenRouter): For itinerary generation
  • Firebase/Google Cloud: For data storage and authentication
  • RevenueCat & Apple: For payment processing

We do not sell your personal data to advertisers or data brokers. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Is my trip data private?

Yes. Your trips are completely private and visible only to you. We do not:

  • Share your trips with other users
  • Make trips publicly searchable
  • Use your trip data for social features
  • Display your travel plans to anyone else

Does Triv use analytics or advertising?

No. Firebase Analytics is explicitly disabled in the app. We do not use:

  • Advertising networks
  • Third-party analytics trackers
  • Behavioral advertising pixels
  • Cross-site tracking

Technical Questions

How does the AI itinerary generation work?

Our AI system:

  1. Analyzes your swiped places and preferences
  2. Sends this data to Google Gemini 2.5 Flash AI model (via OpenRouter API)
  3. Generates a day-by-day schedule optimized for your travel style
  4. Organizes activities chronologically and geographically
  5. Includes timing estimates, hotel recommendations, and routing

The entire process typically takes 2-5 minutes depending on trip complexity.

What if the AI generation fails or times out?

If itinerary generation fails:

  • Your credit will not be deducted
  • You can retry generation without additional cost
  • The app will display an error message with retry options
  • Contact support if issues persist

Can I use Triv offline?

Limited offline functionality is available:

  • View previously loaded trips
  • Review saved itineraries
  • Access cached trip data

However, the following require an internet connection:

  • Generating new itineraries
  • Swiping on new places
  • Updating account information
  • Making purchases

What cities/destinations does Triv support?

Triv supports travel planning for thousands of destinations worldwide, powered by Google Places API. Popular cities include:

  • European cities: Barcelona, Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Prague, Edinburgh, and more
  • Global destinations: Major cities and tourist destinations around the world

If a destination has Google Places data available, we can generate itineraries for it.

How accurate is the place information?

Place information (names, addresses, photos, ratings, hours) comes directly from Google Places API, which aggregates data from Google Maps and user contributions. We update this data regularly, but we recommend:

  • Verifying hours of operation before your trip
  • Checking for closures or renovations
  • Confirming reservations for restaurants and attractions

Troubleshooting

I'm not receiving my credits after purchase

If credits don't appear after purchase:

  1. Wait a few minutes for processing
  2. Force close and reopen the app
  3. Tap "Restore Purchases" in the subscription section
  4. Check your Apple purchase receipt to confirm the transaction completed
  5. Contact support if credits still don't appear

My itinerary generation is stuck or taking too long

Generation typically takes 2-5 minutes. If it exceeds 10 minutes:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Close and reopen the app
  3. Check the trip status in "My Trips"
  4. If still stuck in "Processing" status after 15 minutes, contact support

Your credit will only be deducted if generation successfully completes.

I can't sign in with Google/Apple

If sign-in fails:

  1. Ensure you have a stable internet connection
  2. Check that you're using the latest iOS version
  3. Verify your Google/Apple account is in good standing
  4. Try signing out of your device-level Google/Apple account and back in
  5. Restart your device and try again
  6. Contact support if issues persist

The app is crashing or not loading

Try these steps:

  1. Force close the app completely
  2. Check for app updates in the App Store
  3. Restart your iOS device
  4. Ensure you have adequate storage space
  5. Try uninstalling and reinstalling (your data is saved in the cloud)

Can children use Triv?

Triv is intended for users aged 13 and older. Users under 18 should obtain parental consent before using the app. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

What happens to my data if Triv shuts down?

In the unlikely event of service discontinuation, we will:

  • Provide at least 30 days' advance notice
  • Allow users to export their trip data
  • Securely delete all user data after the transition period
  • Process refunds for unused subscription time per our refund policy

Additional Questions

Can I share my itineraries with others?

Currently, Triv does not have built-in sharing functionality. Your trips are private to your account. Future versions may include sharing features.

Can multiple people collaborate on a trip?

Trip collaboration is not currently supported. Each trip is owned by a single account. We may add collaborative planning in future updates.

How often is the app updated?

We regularly release updates with new features, improvements, and bug fixes. Enable automatic updates in your iOS settings to always have the latest version.

Does Triv work internationally?

Yes! Triv works worldwide and supports trip planning for international destinations. However:

  • The app interface is currently available in English only
  • Payment is processed in USD through the Apple App Store
  • Data connection is required for most features
